  • Civil Engineering

    Road design

Road designs outline the physical attributes of a roadway according to standards and constraints. The objective in roadway design is to provide travel access which maximizes client goals and code compliance yet minimizes overall environment impact and construction costs.

    Utility Design

Utility design is the analysis, coordination, and planning for utility infrastructures (e.g. electricity, gas, water, and sewerage). Proper utility design ensures lower-cost construction, code/ordinance compliance, and increased efficiency/safety. Utility systems may be designed individually or concurrently.

    Grading

Grading design is the planning and layout of site contours and elevation planes. Proper grading design can assist in correct location and ground preparation for foundations, roadways, landscaping, surface drainage, etc.

    Site Design (Commercial)

Accesses, easements, roadways, utilities, parking, landscaping, sanitary/storm water flows, etc. are elements which need to be considered during preliminary commercial property planning. Site designs should not only address these elements, but also position the proposed building in such a way as to take the best advantage of the site.

    Site Design (Residential)

Residential site designs need to consider many of the same elements as a commercial site though on a smaller scale.

Proper design yields numerous benefits including lower construction costs due to foresight and planning.

    Master Planning

Master planning large-scale, site design based on future property goals and potential. Long-term planning helps determine what steps need to be taken now to meet future requirements, manage resources effectively, locate structures advantageously, etc. Through master planning, Iron Rock Engineering develops property systems both individually and collectively in order to achieve our client’s overall vision.

    Septic Design

Septic designs specify the necessary system to adequately meet a certain waste capacity in a given soil type. Generally, site soil types will need to be tested and determined prior to design.

    Thinking Outside the Box?

At Iron Rock Engineering, we work to find solutions to every client’s surveying, engineering, and design needs. Do you have a project which does not necessarily fall in any of the categories above?

  • Structural Engineering

    Commercial/Residential Structural Design

Structurally engineered buildings are designed to resist wind, seismic, snow, and the various other forces imposed upon them. From simple single-family dwellings to multi-story hotel and office buildings, our engineers are adept at traditional design materials included wood, concrete, steel, and masonry, but can work with non-traditional materials and in any capacity as required by the uniqueness of the project.

    Industrial/Agricultural Structural Design

Iron Rock Engineering can provide structural engineering services for a variety of building types including industrial and agricultural buildings. These buildings are designed not only to meet function requirements, but also to resist wind, seismic, snow, and the various other forces imposed upon them. Our engineers are adept at traditional design materials included wood, concrete, steel, and masonry, but can work with non-traditional materials and in any capacity as required by the uniqueness of the project.

    Bridge Design

“I do not want to drive across a bridge designed by an engineer who believed the numbers in structural stress models are relative truths.” ~R. C. Sproul At Iron Rock Engineering, we take the responsibility which comes with our profession to heart. Our designs provide structures which will not only be used, but used safely and for generations to come.

    Zip Line & Recreational Design

The red rock canyons of southern Utah and Arizona are the birthplace of modern outdoor recreation. Iron Rock Engineering can provide unique design and engineering services for such recreational structures as zip lines, ropes courses, swings, overlooks, and so on. Do you have a new recreational venture? Let us help you make it fun and safe.

    Finite Element Analysis

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is an advanced engineering tool often used in lieu of experimental testing. Via computer based methods, our engineers simulate and analyze the behavior of structures and/or structural components under a variety of conditions. These types of analyses allow for significant cost-savings without the loss of crucial information and data

    Retaining Wall Design

Retention walls are crucial elements used in a variety of structural and civil contexts. Often, the look of a retention wall may be as important to the client as the function of it. Our engineers consider both during design and can help you identify the perfect wall parameters necessary to meet your needs.

Existing Structures – Evaluation & Retrofit

For various reasons, an existing building may require a structural evaluation and retrofitting. Our engineers can evaluate commercial, residential, industrial, and agricultural buildings to determine the overall stability and any structural modifications which may need to take place. Iron Rock Engineering can also provide the necessary details and plans associated with such retrofits so owners and contractors can complete building modifications with absolute confidence in the results.

    Thinking Outside the Box?

At Iron Rock Engineering, we work to find solutions to every client’s surveying, engineering, and design needs. Do you have a project which does not necessarily fall in any of the categories above?

  • Surveying

    Topographic

Also known as “Topo”, these surveys provide land contours and elevations data which can then be utilized in creating maps, architectural/landscape design planning, cut/fill analysis, hydrology studies, etc.

    Boundary

Boundary surveys identify, mark, and map any existing corners or delineations found on a property.

    ALTA

An ALTA survey is a high-detail, industry standard survey. It is most commonly required by banks for commercial loans. ALTA surveys determine location data for everything tied to a property included (but not limited to) buildings, topography, easements, utilities, etc.

    Lot/Parcel Line Adjustments

Relocating the boundary between two or more properties requires a lot/parcel line adjustment.

    Lot Joinders

Lot joinders provide and allow for the combination of two or more properties.

    Minor/Major Subdivisions

By law, both minor (one property into 4 or fewer separate properties) and major (one property into 5 or 100+ properties) subdivisions require licensed surveying and engineering. Iron Rock Engineering can provide services for any scope of subdivision.

    Waterproofs

Water rights are determined and regulated by the state. In order to maintain the water rights associated with a property, proof of beneficial use must be provided in the form of a waterproof. Iron Rock Engineering can assist in not only waterproofs but also application changes, wells designs, source protection plans, and PER’s (Preliminary Evaluation Reports).

Proper design not only ensures compliance with all current codes and ordinances, but brings additional function and aesthetic appeal to your building. Where architect-stamped plans are needed, Iron Rock has a number of firms we partner and collaborate with on a regular basis to make the design development process as seamless as possible. Let our design team work with you to create that space which perfectly fits your commercial and business needs.

    .

    .

    Interior Design

Interior designers primarily assist in space planning, color selection, and furniture selection, however, they also offer a myriad of lesser-known benefits and services such as fixture and equipment selection, compilation of estimates, ordering/tracking of merchandise, and a point of contact to work directly with vendors. At Iron Rock Engineering, our interior designers have countless resources and connections available to them. As a result, they can be a valuable asset to not only develop and maintain your project’s budget, but at the same time, establish a unique and personalized environment just for you.

  • Testing & Inspections

    Soils, Percolation, & Compaction Testing

Having your site’s soil tested is an upfront effort which offers peace of mind, simplifies the design process, and ensures proper ground preparation for construction. Even if not required in your area, it is good practice to know what type of soil you will be building upon. A small expense for soils testing now can help you avoid a large expense to repair structural damages which may occur from settling or expansion later. Be smart and always verify required testing and inspections with your local building department prior to construction.

    .

    Concrete Testing

Concrete testing provides the owner, design team, and contractor the necessary quality control and verification that concrete mixes meet or exceed design and structural criteria.

    FHA Home Inspection

Homeowners/buyers intending to finance a purchase or refinance with a Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loan may be required to obtain a FHA Home Inspection to ensure that a particular property meets the basic safety and soundness standards of HUD (United States Department of Housing and Urban Development). Iron Rock Engineering provides FHA home inspections which investigate a manufactured home’s foundation type, support measurements, lateral bracing systems, and other structural related elements.

Welding, Rebar, & General Structural Inspections

Welding and Rebar inspections provide the necessary quality control and verification that structural systems (welded steel members, rebar grids, etc.) meet or exceed design criteria and structural specifications. A general structural inspection is the review/analysis of an existing structure. Do you have a remodel which may impact structurally bearing assemblies? Is the structural integrity of your building in question? A general structural inspection will assess and provide you with the necessary information to move forward confidently with your decisions.
