vice president - Architecture
Matt Henke
Matt’s interest and experience in design was instilled in him from an early age. He grew up on the jobsite with his father and has field experience with nearly every trade. Matt’s technical experience naturally segued into a passion for design and offered freelance design services on the side for many years. In 2013, Matt graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor’s in speech communication which laid the groundwork for his unique communication-centric design approach.
In 2015, Matt began working as an architectural designer for Iron Rock Engineering, Surveying, & Design and it was working directly with engineers, surveyors, and land planners that equipped Matt with his unique perspective on the complexity of construction and the many opportunities for collaboration and integration that are overlooked or missed by traditional architecture firms.
Leveraging his breadth of experience as a springboard, Matt continued is education at the University of Utah, and in May of 2021, graduated with a Master of Architecture. Shortly thereafter, Iron Rock Engineering, Surveying, & Design evolved into Iron Rock Group—a multi-disciplinary team of designers and engineers—of which Matt is grateful to be a part of.
Matt’s personal approach to architecture is highly collaborative. He believes the “what” of design will always work itself out so long as the team has a “how”. Process and communication are everything to Matt and he is constantly striving to make each project and design experience better than the last.
